Rory Gallagher’s Top 5 Greatest Hits
This week marks Rory Gallagher’s 69th Birthday. It’s been more than 22 years since he passed away, but he lives on through his array of timeless rock anthems. In memory and celebration of this guitar hero’s music, we’ve compiled a list of what are arguably Rory’s Top 5 Greatest Hits.
1. Tattoo’d Lady
Tattoo’d Lady is the opening track from Rory’s fifth studio album entitled ‘Tattoo’. It opens with a psychedelic intro that subtlety builds and builds until you here that guitar break through like a sonic tank. One of his greatest works hands down.
2. A Million Miles Away
A Million Miles Away is one of those songs where Rory’s musical talent blindingly shines through, with his soulful solos and the ability to be able to make his guitar sound like it’s weeping. The track really does transport you A Million Miles Away.
3. Bullfrog Blues
A pure headbanging tune. Rory shows no mercy to his guitar’s fretboard using his glass slider that gives that classic bluesy sound. With a super fast tempo, this blues song should do the Kings of Blues, B.B Kings and Muddy Waters proud.
4. Bad Penny
This is truly one of the great rock anthems of all time. This iconic guitar melody gets into your head and you can’t help but hum along to it. Not to mention Rory’s tantalizing vocal ability that would make any vocalist envious.
5. Philby
Rory had a lot of rockstar admirers, from Jimi Hendrix to Slash from Guns’N’Roses. It’s truly one of Rory Gallagher’s greatest heavy songs, that has inspired countless musicians to follow in Rory’s footsteps. Although, I think his shoes are too big to fill.
